Reputed Place to Eat
Famous for it’s navy background, fishing and agricultural ties, the town of Rye in East Sussex provides the perfect background for fresh, local produce, home made food, relaxing atmospheres and is the backdrop to the perfect evening out. To make sure you get the best out of your evening, the Globe Inn Marsh Pub on Military Road comes highly recommended by the locals and tourists alike.
Opened in 1834 the Globe was used by working men from the Royal Military Canal. On what is now the car park, there was a forge and a blacksmiths shop, with a cliff face and stables at the back of the building. John Wheeler was the first landlord to reside in the Globe Inn. Four years later when John died, the pub was taken over by the Ames family, who ran it for a total of 44 years, making the Globe the longest held family run pub in Rye.
Today, The Globe Inn Marsh continues to uphold the old fashioned values instilled in the early days and offers a comfortable way to spend an afternoon or an evening meal out.
